Similarities between Timing Constraint Sets: Towards Interchangeable Constraint Models for Real-World Software Systems

چکیده
Traditionally, given two timing constraint sets, their relationship is defined by their timed trace inclusions. This approach only gives a boolean answer to if one set of constraints is contained within the other. In this paper, we first introduce a quantitative measure to describe the closeness or the similarity between two timing constraint sets. We intend to study the satisfaction bounds of similar timing constraint sets by similar timed systems. Such bounds will help improve the predictability of real-time systems in real-world applications and provide guidance for self-tuning systems.

Department of Computing Science Illinois Institute of Technology A New Metric for Quantifying Similarity between Timing Constraint Sets in Soft Real-Time Systems
Real-time systems are systems that their timing behaviors must satisfy a specified set of timing constraints and they often operate in a real-world environment with scarce resources. As a result, real-world performance of these systems may deviate from the design, either inevitably due to unpredictable factors, or by intention in order to improve system’s other quality-of-service (QoS) properti...
متن کاملStudy of Scheduling Problems with Machine Availability Constraint
In real world scheduling applications, machines might not be available during certain time periods due to deterministic or stochastic causes. In this article, the machine scheduling with availability constraints for both deterministic and stochastic cases with different environments, constraints and performance measures will be discussed. The existing body of research work in the literature wil...
متن کاملA new method for 3-D magnetic data inversion with physical bound
Inversion of magnetic data is an important step towards interpretation of the practical data. Smooth inversion is a common technique for the inversion of data. Physical bound constraint can improve the solution to the magnetic inverse problem. However, how to introduce the bound constraint into the inversion procedure is important. Imposing bound constraint makes the magnetic data inversion a n...
متن کاملCoordinating Asynchronous and Open Distributed Systems under Semiring-Based Timing Constraints
For asynchronous and open distributed systems, dynamicity, openness, and stringent quality of service requirements post great challenges to model and develop such systems. The Actor-Role-Coordinator (ARC) model was previously proposed to address these challenges. The role concept in the model attends to the dynamicity and openness issues by providing abstractions of actor behaviors. In this pap...
متن کاملChapter 14 Issues on Real-time Systems Programming: Language, Compiler, and Object Orientation
This chapter investigates how real-time system programs can be implemented. We rst review the important issues in a real-time programming language. The timing constraint constructs in various programming languages, such as Flex, RTC++, and RT-Euclid, are introduced and compared. We also present an implementation scheme of the timing constraint block in Flex. The interactions between constraints...
